Grilling with Rich, a blogger we follow here at Stubb’s follows, asked us for our Top 10 BBQ songs. I had a lot of fun putting this list together. BBQ and music – the perfect combo.

  • Summertime by Janis Joplin: Stubb regularly sang this song when jamming with the likes of Ely, Willie, and the rest of the music gang that descended on Lubbuck. I’m picking Janis’ version because of her ties to Austin and her great voice.
  • The Great East Broadway Onion Championship of 1978 by Tom T. Hall: Hall recounts the early morning pool battle he had with Joe Ely, using a white onion as the cue ball and a broom for a cue.
  • Bar-B-Q by ZZ Top: Billy Gibbons recently stopped by our office and we talked sauce and Stubb. BFG is one cool dude. Billy F. Gibbons of ZZ Top
  • Cornbread Moon by Joe Ely: Ely was very close to Stubb, and was a constant at the Lubbuck joint. Great song too.
  • Struttin’ with Some Barbecue by Willie Nelson: An Austin icon singing about Texas BBQ. Stubb’s is Texas BBQ so this was an easy choice.Willie Nelson playing at Stubb's Austin
  • Barbeque by Robert Earl Keen: A Texan singing about what Texans love to do – eat great BBQ.
  • Cold Shot by Stevie Ray Vaughan: SRV was a big fan of Stubb’s – the man, the music venue and the BBQ.
  • Texas is a State of Mind by Ray Wylie Hubbard: Maybe this is why our sauces, marinades and rubs sell so well outside of Texas.
  • Got My Mojo Working by Muddy Waters: Another easy choice since Stubb and Muddy were friends and Stubb loved the blues.
  • Ring of Fire by Johnny Cash: Another friend of Stubb. Cash isn’t singing about smoking over a pit but the fire, it burns, burns, burns.Stubb with Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash
