Alternative Music Pairings for Every Sauce

A little while back I paired Stubb’s Bar-B-Q sauces with classic rock and country artists. While we think Stubb’s is a classic, we like to stretch taste buds so an indie rock and country pairing with our sauces is in order:

Stubb’s Original

CB “Stubb” Stubblefield first started selling his sauce in old Jack Daniel bottles, capped with a jalapeno pepper. Stubb’s Original has a richness and taste that captures the essence of legendary Texas bar-b-q.

Sam Beam of Iron & Wine is an original Texas artist and one of my personal faves. Iron & Wine’s entire catalogue is strong but I favor Kiss Each Other Clean and The Shepherd’s Dog.

Stubb’s Spicy

We take great pride in stretching the taste buds, and our Spicy does so with habanero mash in this signature sauce. Stubb never dumb downed flavor for the masses. We he said spicy, he meant it.

Bright Light Social Hour is a local Austin band that kicks up a spicy mix of rock, funk, soul and psychedelia. Check out their namesake LP The Bright Light Social Hour.

Stubb’s Sweet Heat

Stubb’s newest sauce starts out with brown sugar and molasses and ends with chipotle adobe. The flavors soar – my new personal favorite!

Gary Clark Jr. went from an Austin find to a national find. While I love the success he is achieving in the US and abroad, Austinites miss his local presence. His guitar playing is blistering hot yet his overall sound defines sweetness. I am really looking forward to his new album Blak and Blu.

Stubb’s Hickory Bourbon

This sauce has a strong and growing fan base. Hickory smoke melded with the flavor of bourbon is a tough combination to beat.

Hayes Carll is Texas country singer and songwriter. Originally from Houston, he now calls Austin home. His music pairs perfectly with Hickory Bourbon, a sweet note of smoke and a tipsy, relaxed vibe from the bourbon. Give KMAG YOYO a listen.

Heartless Bastards

Smokey Mesquite

This sauce is one of our favorite sweet sauces, combining natural sugars with the taste of Texas mesquite wood. The flavor rocks.

I discovered Heartless Bastards at an Austin City Limits show two year’s ago and have searched out this Texas transplant indie rock band ever since. Erika Wennerstrom has a beautiful smokey voice and Mark Nathan’s guitar playing smokes. I love both The Mountain and their latest album Arrow.

Stubb’s Honey Pecan

Folks have a love/hate relationship with this sauce. Mostly love, fortunately for us. Just as it sounds, our sauce provides a delicious blend of natural honey and pecans.

Kat Edmonson, another Austin singer songwriter, is not as well established as some on this list but her smooth, sweet vocals and pretty melodies make her a perfect paring with Honey Pecan. Her latest is Way Down Low.
